Welcome to Pin-up - Bowling, Booze, Burgers & Beats - Stay Tuned

Burgers, burgers, burgers

Every now and then we stumble upon a website that makes us say HELL YEAH! And here is one such website. Put together by the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board it celebrates the burger in all its glories and puts together 30 recipes in one place. It is, quite simply, heaven on a screen. Though be warned, do not peruse this blog or visit the site if you are even the slightest bit peckish. It will do you no favours whatsoever.

Observe and worship

Oh Lord!

Lord, have mercy!

Mercy, mercy me

God Damn!

What did we tell ya?

Fashion label Forever Unique’s Dominique Taylor talks to us about the brand, the photoshoot at Pin-up and her inspirations.

Dominique Taylor // Forever Unique

Hello Dominique. What is your role at Forever Unique?

I co-ordinate the Art Direction and style all of the Photo Shoots for fashion brand Forever Unique.

What is your background?

I studied Fashion, Media and Promotion at University, and with a real love and interest in fashion, I was really eager to explore lots of different avenues of the industry and so spent time whilst studying gaining experience in PR & Marketing for the UK’s leading Vintage Fashion Fair ‘Judy’s Vintage Fair’ assisting various fashion Stylists on editorial Fashion shoots for the likes of Dazed and Confused and after I graduated I landed a role as an Assistant Fashion Buyer. Feeling like I had uncovered several areas of the industry my passion and enjoyment for fashion styling stood out as the thing that I wanted peruse most, so I worked really hard on my portfolio in my spare time, organised and styled test shoots and eventually landed an in-house Styling role at Forever Unique.

Who are your fashion heroes / inspirations?

I’m constantly being inspired by fashion, and have many fashion heroes but the day that I discovered Tim Walker will always stand out in my mind: I was sat in college killing time between classes reading the December 2004 issue of Vogue and his Fashion Pantomime shoot had me lost in a world of the unimaginable, each image was a work of art, so fantastical and extraordinary. It was then that I realised that fashion was more than just clothes; it was about storytelling, escapism and transformation, I immediately wanted to be a part of it. Since, Tim Walker has been a huge inspiration, along with Kate Phelan who regularly styles his shoots, I always look to their work when I’m feeling uninspired – they are my fashion fix!

How would you describe the Forever Unique label?

The Forever Unique label is fun, glamorous and statement making. It’s definitely not for the wall flowers amongst us.

What is the ethos?

To dress the girl who likes to stand out from the crowd.

You conducted a shoot at Pin-up for the Spring 2012 collection why did you choose Pin-up for a venue?

Forever Unique are most well known for their range of Prom Dresses – this season the soft pastel colour palette and classic prom silhouette evoked a real element of Fifties fashion, so it was only right that we would take a vintage Fifties approach for the campaign shoot, and it just so happened that Pin-Up had popped up in Manchester. The 50’s Diner style interior and bowling lanes provided the perfect setting for a fun, prom themed shoot equipped with Ice Cream Sundaes, Cocktails and Bowling!

What did you want to achieve from the shoot?

Great imagery!

You turned us on to the Instagram app. Are you still using it?

Yes I’m still using Instagram, however my new obsession is Pinterest, I’m sucker for a mood board and this keeps me entertained for hours!

The legendary Gilles Peterson

Glad to hear that Gilles Peterson is heading to 6music after an amazing run of 13 years at Radio1. His show is always jam packed with goodness and is pretty much the only decent show on that station. Catch his last few at Radio 1 before he jumps. His show is broadcast at 2am on Wednesdays – so it’s generally an iplayer catch up session for me.

Mel Ramos versus Espirit

Now I love the artwork of pin-up artist Mel Ramos, true, it often features ladies in the nude, but honestly, that isn’t the main reason. His work plays on cultural iconography and makes it as appealing as the beautiful women he paints. Everything becomes an object worthy of appreciation. I also love the model Giselle, she oozes confidence and is a natural beauty.  I couldn’t help but be drawn to one of the new Espirit ads. It’s very similar,I think, to one of my favourite Mel Ramos pieces.

Happy Days

Happy Days! Who didn’t dig it? It was awesome and taught many a lad how to (try to) be cool. Now I had a Fonz action figure, with moving thumbs up action, but I don’t recall there being any other figures available. But we stumbled on these so there must have been.

Not that I would really have been interested in Ralph, Potsie or even Richie Cunningham, but I have to say that they would have been ahead of a Mr C action figure anyday

An Alf one perhaps, But Mr or Mrs C? Come on, especially when you could have a Fonz in action figure

or even a pair of Fonzie socks. I’m off to ebay to find me a pair

I can’t quite believe

that I am writing a post about the girl group The Saturdays, but here one is, well actually its more of a visual post, rather than a written one, for i know very little about them, nor would i like to. However this promotional photo of one of them is pretty cool and reminds me of the artwork you would see on the side of a WW2 bomber. So here it is, my post about The Saturdays…
